Louise Gardiner

After decided to delve back into the world of embroidery I came across Louise Gardiner's work. A fresh and modern approach to embroidery. Her figurative work is what interests me the most as this is the kind of thing I would like to portray in this semesters work. Wish me luck.

Wallpapers By Brigitte Zieger

' Brigitte Zieger challenges the idyllic motif of Toile de Jouy on her wallpaper by projecting animations of a moving tank, a sniper aiming at the viewer , and the explosion of the pattern, all complete with sound effects.'

Bloody brilliant if you ask me! watch the video's of her moving wallpapers:

Crafty.

The Great Northern Contemporary Fair's website has an extensive range of brilliant new artists.

One day I will own a tiny little craft shop and tea room. It's going to be beautiful...

Vivienne Westwood Designs For Cole & Son

Browsing Wallpaper* magazine this evening and these Vivienne Westwood designs caught my eye. The collection was designed for Cole and Son. The first called 'Paper jewellery' was inspired by her AW01 collection using only paper as material to re-create the royal jewels.

The second piece 'Insects' was the one I enjoyed the most, some of the elements and motifs are very similar to some of my designs and I also like the composition of the piece.

Today has been the longest day of my education yet, I have spent hours with my eyes pressed up to a computer screen, relentlessly trying to get my drawings Illustrator ready for my next laser session. Through all the moaning I've done today I'm actually quite pleased with myself and all the work I've managed to get done over the last month or so. I really think it will show in all my final designs.

2 weeks until the holidays!

Johanna Basford

This is a designer I looked at a couple of years ago, starting this project I decided to go back and take another look. Within the last two years she has come a long way with her designs. Looking on her website I was amazed at the volume of her work and the amount of different commissions she has done recently.
She works predominately in black and white and in pen and ink. She has confessed that she is not a technical whizz when it comes to computer programs and using things such as vectors, and prefers working by hand. This is something I relate with completely as that is the area I am lacking confidence in at the moment. Although I think I am going to concentrate on getting to grips with the computers this week and try and progress further with my designs.

Catherine Sutcliffe-Fuller

A month or so ago I visited North Lincoln to visit my boyfriends family for a few days. Knowing my love for anything artistic he took me to a nearby gallery called 'The ropewalk'. As well as being a gallery it also has artists studios. The week I visited was a print exhibition and this was one of the artist that stuck in my brain.

Her designs are quite impulsive but then worked into with different media. I think this is the approach I should be taking with my work. So far I have gone from one design to the next, Throughout the next week I will go back to my work and see how I can develop these designs further.
